Christian Zamora: A Musical Life

Christian Zamora is an accomplished classical violinist and comedian with a passion for combining storytelling, comedy, classical music (mostly), and drama. Born in San Jose, Costa Rica, Christian began playing the violin at the age of nine in the public schools of Kansas City, KS, where he grew up. His mother would eventually date and marry his violin teacher, Paul Hatton, who then became his beloved step father. He would then go to study with the esteemed Vartan Manoogian at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. And along the way would work with the St. Lawrence String Quartet at Stanford University, as well as David and Linda Cerone from the Cleveland Institute of Music to name a few.

Christian has performed with symphony orchestras across the country, including the Kansas City Symphony,  the South Dakota Symphony (as Associate Concertmaster), the Bismarck/Mandan symphony (as Concertmaster), and the Charleston Sympphony. He was the first violinist of the Augustana String Quartet, the resident quartet of Augustana Univerisity in Sioux Falls, SD. He has also appeared as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the country.

Of his theater and comedy endeavors, Christian has studied improv at Theater 99, performed at the experimental comedy and variety show Ripcity, and most recently played the role of the Fiddler in Charleston Stage’s production of “Fiddler on the Roof.”  His current focus is creating various solo perfromances, which includes his one-man show, "So Long, 3108!"—a hilarious, emotional journey of a young musician caught between self-doubt, love, and ambition. This show combines comedic storytelling with emotionally rich classical music, creating an experience that resonates with audiences from all walks of life. Christian is dedicated to taking classical music out of the symphony hall and sharing its beauty with broader, more diverse audiences.
